Pokémon TCG Pocket New Series: Dual-Type Cards & Starter Pokémon ex Explained

Pokémon TCG Pocket is about to get its biggest shake-up yet. A brand-new series arrives in late October 2026, bringing dual-type cards to the mobile game for the first time, plus first partner (starter) Pokémon ex. Here's everything announced so far.

Dual-Type Cards Are Coming to TCG Pocket

Until now, every Pokémon in TCG Pocket has had just one type. The new series changes that: some Pokémon will have two types at once, which opens up new deck-building options and new ways to hit Weakness.

The first dual-type card revealed is Mega Mewtwo X ex, a Psychic and Fighting type Pokémon. Expect it to be a top chase card and a strong meta pick.

First Partner Pokémon ex

Starter Pokémon are getting the ex treatment too. Piplup ex and Fuecoco ex have been shown so far, and more first partners are likely to follow.

When Is the Next TCG Pocket Expansion?

The new series is expected in late October 2026. It was announced at PokémonXP during the 2026 World Championships in San Francisco. It follows Deluxe Pack: Mega, which arrived on 29 September 2026 with Mega Charizard X ex, Mega Altaria ex and Mega Lucario ex, plus returning B Series cards and new alternate art.

Tips to Get Ready

  • Save your Pack Hourglasses and Poké Gold so you can open plenty of packs on launch day.
  • Finish your Deluxe Pack: Mega collection while it's still around.
  • Think about Weakness: dual-type Pokémon can make some current decks much stronger or weaker.
